Where we referee

SNRR members are regularly appointed to matches arranged by senior clubs, junior clubs, schools and other bodies within the catchment areas of the Gordon, Northern Suburbs, Manly and Warringah Premiership (Shute Shield) rugby clubs.

The area runs from the northern side of the Harbour Bridge to Hornsby in the north, out to Hunters Hill in the west, and the beaches suburbs from Mosman and Manly up to Newport. Games are generally held Saturdays and Sundays, with some Friday-night matches under lights.

A brief history

On the northern side of Sydney there were once four referee associations — Gordon, Manly, Northern Suburbs and Warringah — each appointing referees within its own boundaries. In 2004 the four came together to form the Metropolitan Northern Zone Referee Association (MNZ), invited by the Sydney Junior Rugby Union to appoint referees to all SJRU competition games on the north side of Sydney.

MNZ was soon renamed the Sydney North Referee Association, and early in 2019 became Sydney North Rugby Referees (Inc). The Life Member honour was added to the SNRR constitution in 2021.
