Peter Taylor

Known as "Sticks" across the Manly rugby community, Peter refereed kids' rugby on the northern beaches from the 1960s — more than 50 years. There's video evidence of him running touch in the 1971 U10s Grand Final.

He started at around 20 and refereed his last season in 2019, aged 72. Softly spoken and of slight stature, Peter was widely regarded as the perfect referee for our very youngest players. Famously, he didn't drive — he made his way to matches on foot or by public transport. He is also a Life Member of Manly Junior Rugby Union.

Dennis Fardy

Born in 1945, Dennis fell in love with rugby at Bathurst Teachers College and went on to play in the Army as a "nasho", at the University of New England, and with St George and Randwick in the Shute Shield, finishing at Newport in 1983 at 38.

He first refereed with Warringah in 1982, later joined Sydney RA and NSWRRA, and became a founding member of Metropolitan North Zone RA in 2004. Still an active member, he refereed 18 matches for SNRR in 2022 — some 40 years of refereeing in total.

Terry Wooldridge

Terry's contribution has mainly been as a coach. A Mona Vale local since 1970, he coached Newport club players, St Augustine's schoolboys, and every age of Warringah Juniors representative teams from U10 to U17.

He started refereeing in 1997 and, from 2008 to 2015, served as Head of Referee Coaching for MNZ/SNRR — helping develop the referee grading tier structure and the SSS development squads. Across his career he has refereed around 300 games and coached some 200 referees, and remains an active Referee Coach.

Ian Eastman

Ian may well be the longest continually serving rugby referee in Australia still active in the 2020s — over sixty years of continual refereeing service across junior, sub-district, Barker, Knox and public-schools competitions. A former Lindfield player, coach and manager, he played 260+ senior sub-district games for the club.

A former member of the NSWRRA Executive, Ian was awarded the Dick Webb Clubman of the Year, and in 2013 received a Fifty-Year Long Service Certificate from the Australian Rugby Union. He is also a NSW Justice of the Peace, appointed at 21 — the earliest age then possible.

Colin Mackenzie

Colin has been a rugby referee on Sydney's north shore for many years. A full profile is coming soon.
