About Us
Sydney North Rugby Referees (SNRR) is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation (INC 9881310). Our aims and objectives are:
- to promote, recruit, foster, support, encourage and develop match officials for the game of rugby union;
- to appoint match officials to games of rugby union
- to provide fellowship and support for our members
- to provide equipment and facilities for the benefit of members
- to do all things conducive to or incidental to any of the above purposes.
What areas do Sydney North Rugby Referees cover?
SNRR members are regularly appointed to matches arranged by senior clubs, junior clubs, schools and other organising bodies at venues within the catchment areas of the Gordon, Northern Suburbs, Manly and Warringah Premiership (Shute Shield) Rugby Clubs.
The area covered is from the northern side of the Harbour Bridge to Hornsby in the North, out to Hunters Hill (west) and the beaches suburbs from Mosman and Manly up to Newport.
The majority of our member are from surrounding suburbs and include schools, universities, and many and varied places of work.
The games are generally held on Saturdays and Sundays, with some games also occurring under lights on Friday evenings as organised by NSW Suburban Rugby Union, the Sydney Junior Rugby Union and some of the major private schools.
Brief History
On the northern side of Sydney, there were 4 Referee Association namely, Gordon, Manly, Northern Suburbs and Warringah. Each Association appointed referees to grounds within their geographical boundaries.
In 2004, the 4 associations were brought together and a new association called Metropolitan Northern Zone Referee Association [MNZ] was formed and members of the 4 associations were invited to join. This new Association was invited by SJRU to appoint referees to all SJRU competition games on the north side of Sydney. Shortly after, MNZ changed its name to Sydney North Referee Association and early in 2019, the name was changed to Sydney North Rugby Referee (Inc).
